Michael Caffrey is a musician and electronic sound artist in the Outauais region. His practice of the past 19 years has been focussed on exploring new techniques and possibilities of electronic sound generation, and applying these as expressive tools in a live performance context. He has designed and built a system to perform using clean alternative energy over the past 8 years. Since 2001 he has been a member of Montreal electronic experimental band The Unireverse as composer, rhythm programmer, synthesist, and recording engineer. The Unireverse have released many recordings on Montreal's Total Zero label, as well as the albums "Plays The Music" on Montreal label notype in 2005 and "Dude Has His Own Agenda" on Madrid label Giradiscos in 2007. The Unireverse have been invited to perform as part of many festivals, notably, Sonar, Suoni per il Popolo, Pop Montreal, and Mutek. In other collaborations and solo, Michael has been invited to perform as part of Electric Fields, CBC Wavelength Series, Ottawa Tulip Festival and the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. Michael has been requested as a D.J. by SAW Gallery, SAW Video, Artengine, the British Embassy U.K Accents series and the Governor Generals Youth Forum at Rideau Hall. Michael's specialized technical knowledge is utilized by various galleries for A/V installations and presentations, and artists for development of technically explorative artworks.
