In June 2010 a major project initiated by DAÏMÕN will get under way, which will include production residencies, professional development workshops, exhibitions and performances and take place over a year. The co-curators Steven Loft, an independent curator, and Marie-Hélène Leblanc, DAÏMÕN’s artistic director, have developed together “Objet Indirect Object”, a project taking as its topic analogue mechanisms in media art.
The artists participating in “Objet Indirect Object” include in their approach to media art an exploration of this art’s material properties. This project seeks to stimulate the creation of works which will highlight a crucial aspect of discourse on media art and examine the concept of “object-ness” in greater depth. The curators also wish to explore the various strategies adopted by artists to reshape material culture in a post-concrete artistic landscape.
DAÏMÕN will be the site where the project’s activities will converge. Exhibitions and performances will also be presented at various venues in the Ottawa-Gatineau region through the participation of our valued collaborators: AXENÉO7 (Gatineau), SAW Video (Ottawa), Artengine (Ottawa) and the National Arts Centre/Prairie Scene (Ottawa).
